La CFE se caractérise par un impôt plancher fixé par chaque municipalité en fonction d'une base allant de 200 à 2000 Euros et d'une taux s'échelonnant à 15%. Cependant, le chiffre d'affaires des autos entrepreneurs reste faible ou même, en prenant un cas sur deux, est inexistant. De plus, en marge de la CFE, il faudra compter avec la taxe pour les frais de chambres et les métiers de l'artisanat qui inclut même ceux qui n'exercent pas cette activité.

Pour l'heure, la CFE ne concerne que les entrepreneurs inscrits en 1e Janvier et n'ayant pas d'exonérations de par leur activité et n'assurant pas un prélèvement forfaitaire libératoire. Tout de même, cette taxe touche plusieurs dizaines de milliers de personnes.
